Evangelism is not easy. It needs effort for you to be able to see the result. There is a process para maging effective ang evangelism and it depends on the situation of the field you are working in.
Not by our might, nor by power, but by His Spirit. All glory to Him!
Today, I realized that everything we do in this world is part of the missions God has entrusted to us. Even one of the humblest occupations of man, being a farmer, is one of the best object lesson God gives us to learn the scientific way of evangelism. From the start of preparing the field up to the harvesting of the crop God showed us the step-by-step process: getting people to know Him, accepting Jesus as Saviour, growing in the knowledge of Him, having a meaningful relationship with Him, to sharing the love of Christ in others through personal testimonies. I learned that it is a difficult process and needs deep commitment to accomplish. That if we did not diligently do our part as the sower of the seeds of truth, the harvest will not be the best we want it to be. We need to study more and more every day so we have something to share. We need to experience God’s faithfulness every day to give encouragement to those we are reaching. Yes, retaining converts and gaining people for Christ is a bit hard but it is doable if we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.
yes po mam. it's a process at hindi dapat madaliin kung paanong ang isang gardener ay gumagawa habang naghihintay ng ani ganun din tayo, working while waiting for the final harvest.
I have two important things that I’ve learned from this lesson. They are as follows: 1. Gardening is a very good if not a perfect illustration for evangelism. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this topic, it’s that I now realize that every church planter/missionary should cultivate his own garden. I think we should require them. I believe that gardening can teach them so many lessons on how to properly and successfully evangelize and nurture church members. The principles in gardening are basically the same ones used in evangelism. Hence, the term Church Planting. PREPARATION, SOWING, CULTIVATING, REAPING and NURTURING—these are the terms used and they apply to both. Seriously considered and applied, with careful knowledge and implementation on how each step is performed, we can become successful church planters and winners of souls for God’s kingdom. 2. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Every worker of God should not content himself with what he already knows. Because he is constantly imparting what he has he must continually educate and feed himself with knowledge that can equip him as he continues his work. Otherwise, he would run out of ideas and things to teach. And how can we expect church members to grow if the one in charge of it is himself spiritually and intellectually malnourished? Remember that one cannot give what one does not have. That’s why God’s workers should learn to feed and nourish themselves daily with God’s Word so they can in turn impart to others what they have learned. They must also continuously be open to new ideas that can help them meet the needs of the church members.
Lessons learned: 1. Lessons for evangelism are just in my yard. Comparing evangelism to gardening gives me a clear picture of how the process would go, and it’s inspiring to think of the comparison! 2.
Assignment # 1: These are the things I learned from our Day 1 lesson: 1. Status of SDA church in evangelism- talks about the number of baptism and the percentage of backslidden brethren. 2. Main reasons why church members leave the church. 3. Possible ways to retain the old and new converts. 4. Evangelism was compared to gardening process. 5. Gardening is not easy and so with evangelism. You need commitment, focus, good foundation, and faithfulness to the call of the Great Sower. 6. Baptism is not our goal. Our mission is to make disciples to all nations. (Matt 24:14 & Rev.14:6-7) 7. Nurturing is very much important to ensure the growth of the plants. 8. You reap what you sow.
